Imam Position at Moncton Masjid, New-Brunswick, Canada


To address the growing needs of the community and complement existing services, the Moncton Muslim Association (MMA) is seeking a passionate, motivated full-time Imam to lead the community spirituality, help with education and youth activities in Moncton Canada.


Moncton Masjid run by MMA, is located in the heart of Moncton NB, is a multi-ethnic, multi Fiqh, diverse and inclusive Masjid. MMA is a charitable Islamic organization that was established in 2000 and later opened its first independent Masjid in 2007. Moncton is home to approximately 2,000 diverse Muslims. Here are the required Imam Qualification and expected Responsibilities:


Required Qualifications:


  • Must be Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident (Legally authorized to work in Canada);

  • Preference will be given to people born and/or raised in Canada (Because of their understanding of language and culture);

  • A degree in Islamic Studies or related field from an accredited educational institution (Alim degree will be highly preferred);

  • Complete Hafiz of Quran (Can lead Salat-Al-Traweeh without reading from Quran);

  • Excellent knowledge of the Qur'an, the Sunnah & Islamic law (Fiqh) and Mastering of Tajweed rules;

  • Fluency in English and Arabic, French will be an added asset;

  • Ability to work with people of different Fiqh, Mazhahib, ethnicity, cultures and backgrounds;

  • Has a dynamic personality and must have excellent communication skills;

  • Experience in speaking with Non-Muslims about Islam;

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate / interact with children, teenagers, and adult;

  • Must have essential computer skills (i.e., know how to use word, PowerPoint, excel, email communication, etc.).

  • Note: Some qualifications can be waived upon request for a candidate that fits most qualifications.  

Responsibilities / Main Duties:


  • Lead all daily prayers. If the Imam is away or on holidays, he must arrange for an appropriate replacement for the duration of his absence. (This excludes weekly day offs)

  • Lead all special prayers such as Jummah &Khutbahs, Salat-Al- Janazah, Sal-Al-Traweeh and Eid prayers

  • Perform marriages when required.

  • Provide guidance on religions affairs

  • Help with Islamic education and youth activities as well as Darse for all community members.

  • Lead by example to prevent discrimination on any basis including but not limited to school of thought, gender, race, nationality, ethnic origin, citizenship, political affiliation, or economic status.

  • Develop and implement educational and extracurricular programs for the youth.

  • Help and assist the organization in raising funds for present and future projects.

  • Work approximately 40 hours per week.

  • Note: Some job responsibilities maybe negotiable depending on candidates availability and work plan.
